Ethiopian Cab driver was beaten and his vehicle stolen
ABC NewsLEMON GROVE, Calif. - A taxi cab driver was beaten and his vehicle stolen by two men he transported from San Diego to Lemon Grove early Monday, authorities said.
The carjacking at North Avenue and Olive Street was reported at 1:34 a.m., according to San Diego County sheriff's Sgt. Luis Chavez.
The victim said he picked up the two men at 12th Street and Imperial Avenue, then drove them to Lemon Grove, the sergeant said in a statement.
While the cab was stopped at the intersection of North Avenue and Olive Street, one of the men in the backseat struck the driver in the head with the butt of a black semi-automatic handgun and the other passenger punched the driver, Chavez said.
During a struggle with the two passengers, the driver ended up falling onto the street, where he was kicked in the head. He was left on the ground as the two passengers fled in the taxi cab, according to Chavez.
