Ethiopia has a long and glorious history, but somewhere along the way, it lost its way, Ethiopians are now at the cusp of a transformational era...the decisions made and the path chosen today will determine what lies ahead. This incisive, introspective and witty talk exposes the many unique, yet largely unnoticed, collective attributes of a rich tapestry of people. It explores and posits non-conventional way of thinking forward towards making the hard choices that have to be made today.
Abiy Zegeye is a faculty member of the Addis Ababa University. His primary teaching and research concerns molecular approaches to improving animal productivity. His academic focus has broadened and rests at the intersection of animal production's contribution to climate change and the management of climate induced disaster risks. Both as a keen observer and a spectator of the unfolding era coupled with his love of provoking a debate from a contrarian and counter intuitive point of view makes him an engaging speaker.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.

A TERRIFIED film crew had a lucky escape after being charged at by an angry female elephant. The team of wildlife photographers were shooting in the mountainous Limpopo Province of north east South Africa when the enraged young adult turned on them, ramming into the jeep and attempting to flip it with her tusks. The crew caught the hair-raising attack on camera as their driver desperately reversed in an attempt to escape, before smashing into a log on the road.
